Taika Waititi's acclaimed Hunt for the Wilderpeople will get a cinematic release in the United States.
The North American rights for the film, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival last weekend, has been bought by distribution company The Orchard for just under $US2 million.
Sundance reviewers can't give Hunt for the Wilderpeople enough praise describing it as
"Warmly funny and deeply delightful, Hunt For The Wilderpeople is a tale of two misfits told with such generosity of spirit and consistent good humour that it’s a pleasant surprise to discover how sneakily touching it is as well."
The film premiered and received standing ovations over the weekend at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, in the Eccles Theatre.
Piki producers Carthew Neal, Leanne Saunders and Taika Waititi co-produced the film. It is due for release in New Zealand 31 March 2016.
